Cover Details

Date of Issue1970-04-20
Type of CoverFirst Day Cover (gummed)
DescriptionThis is probably the most valuable of the decimal FDCs. Good clean small Cook FDCs with the 30c stamp can fetch hundreds of dollars. There are many fakes of these FDCs around. See http://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=51902 for a good discussion on the FDCs and identifying fakes. The pic below shows the legit gun with a continuous yellow strip of gum, the fake ones have three green sections.

General Notes
  • This is a Post Master General (PMG) cover FDC. The cover with cachet was produced by the PMG, but post offices or collectors affixed the stamps so you may see variations in stamp placement.
