  • This is a Challis cover. Challis was a cover maker from Perth, prolific in the post-war pre-decimal era. The cover makers was believed to be Tom Thurgood, who was married to Ida Challis. However she may have been the driver behind the cover business. Challis covers all have the same cachet image, some in black but most in colour, some specific to the issue, but most are generic.
